When you stop and take the time to appreciate all things that have come out of the last few months of lockdown, there have been plenty of negatives, but there have also been many positives. While some businesses, incomes, sport and socialising have suffered, the time at home has opened doors to greater connection with family, an opportunity to learn new skills, and time to experience a greater appreciation of ‘home’.
The space we live in, the people we live with, the gardens we tend to and the kitchens we cook in, are things that we have given more attention to. Simple activities like family dinners, playing family board games, enjoying backyard cricket and ball, pulling out the recipe books, planting herb gardens, veggie patches and fruit trees – are bringing back forgotten, home-based pleasures to our day to day lives.
This greater appreciation of ‘home’ has also led people to start dreaming about what their ideal home might look like. Online property searches saw a huge increase over the lockdown period, as families started thinking about that extra bedroom, or a bigger backyard, or a more desirable location closer to nature. The precarious rental market also saw tenants fast-forwarding their plans of home-ownership.
Richard Joy from Connekt Urban Projects is the Senior Land Consultant at Greenhills Estate, Victor Harbor. He said, “We have seen a surge in buyers online looking to buy or build a new home. This time has obviously give people the time to research and think about opportunities. Much of the Greenhills enquiry has been from families looking for more space and room to move, first home buyers looking to get in the market and several couples looking to downsize and build their dream.”
“It’s been an amazing run. We’re down to the last 5 blocks for sale in the current Stage 2 Release at Greenhills” he said.
Greenhills Estate, located on the old Greenhills Adventure Park site, has been reinvented, and is now an intimate private haven inspired by nature. “There are now over 15 homes built and another 9 on the way, with only 5 blocks remaining for sale in Stage 2.” he said.
Greenhills Estate is worth taking at look at. Nestled along the Hindmarsh River and surrounded by 100 year old gum trees, Greenhills is different to other land offerings in the southern suburbs. The symphony of kookaburras and warbling Magpies just add to this serene hidden gem. “Most of the buyers coming to Greenhills love the idea of the 5 hectare natural open space. Here you’ll find brand new playing fields with a basketball court, footy and soccer goals, handball courts, natural walking paths and picnic tables as part of the Greenhills offering. It’s a private, peaceful sanctuary, and a really special place to build a home” Richard said.
